1910 – 1930’s
Pauline McMullen’s parents, Charles and Laura Brooks, began the business by breaking ground on many commercial buildings in the downtown area of Ann Arbor, Michigan. While Brooks became an intergral part of the development in the community, McMullen began the family real estate tradition of managing these properties.
1940’s – 1960’s
John R. McMullen began as a home builder with numerous residential projects throughout the Ann Arbor area. He soon transitioned into land development and becoming owner of the area’s most prominent property management company. The most notable projects were the Westgate Shopping Center, followed by the St. Regis Hotel in Detroit, the Briarwood Hilton Inn, and the Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
1970’s – 1990’s
From the 1970s to the 1990s, John’s son Tom McMullen carried on the tradition of contributing to the community while providing vibrant residential and commercial developments. Over 1,000 units at the Pheasant Run & Valley Ranch Apartments were developed and managed by Tom, along with many commercial projects. He also developed, owned and managed the Best Western Wolverine Inn, 825 Victors Way, Atrium Office Center and the Eisenhower Commerce Center. With each project, the younger McMullen brought the motto “Clients Come First” to the forefront of the business.
As Tom continued to grow the company, his son Nick McMullen moved back from Chicago to work in the family business. As General Manager for the Valley Ranch Apartment Community, Nick learned quickly how to lease, manage and maintain a large luxury apartment community.
2000’s – 2016
From 2000 to 2016, Nick expanded his career into the construction industry, becoming project manager for numerous office buildings developed from the ground up. Shortly thereafter, Nick took over the entire General Contracting division, which developed the Valley Ranch Business Park, bringing their commercial portfolio to over 1 million square feet. After developing Valley Ranch, Nick transitioned to the role of VP of Operations for the company.
In 2013, Nick decided to open a marketing firm in Sarasota, Florida, while McMullen Properties was transitioning to sell its portfolio in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
During this time, McMullen recognized a significant need for quality commercial and residential leasing and property management in Sarasota. To provide this service, Nick decided to close Expo Marketing, Inc. and focus solely on real estate.
Today, McMullen Properties specializes in commercial and residential leasing and property management. The legacy of service at McMullen Properties continues to prove the family’s expertise as having the highest level of commitment and reliability.
